Free baggage allowance

 

The baggage allowance is: 40 kilos in Premium Class and 30 kilos in Economy Class, for all journeys  

 

For reasons of safety regulations as well as our cabin capacity, each passenger is allowed to take only one piece of hand baggage on board. Hand luggage must not weigh more than 7 kilos in Premium Class and 5 kilos in Economy Class on all routes. The dimensions must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. Hand baggage must be presented at check-in and must be labeled with a “Cabin Baggage” tag by our Gambia Bird check-in staff. Baggage that exceeds the maximum weight and measurement dimensions for hand baggage must be check-in and transported as checked-in baggage and depends on the space available.

 

 

Excess baggage

The carriage of baggage that exceeds the applicable free baggage allowance is subject to a kilo charge which applies within West Africa for USD 1.50, – per kilo up to a total kilo baggage allowance of 20 kilo per piece per route. For all flights to-/from Europe USD 7.50, – per kilo are charged up to a total of 20 kilo baggage allowance per piece per route.

 

Special baggage

The carriage of sports equipment and special luggage must be authorized by the charterer and must be registered in advance because of limited freight capacities. Weapons and fire-arms are not permitted on any Gambia Bird Aircraft at all times.
Passengers are permitted to carry additional sporting equipment at the rates mentioned below. The special baggage is subject space available and has to be booked 72 hours before departure through our Ticket Shops or Telephone Sales Center.

Special baggage items and boarding assistance for persons with reduced mobility must either be registered at our office (from Monday to Friday during office hours) from 09:00 to 16:00 per phone: +220 690 09 09, per e-mail: telesales@gambiabird.com be registered online at our internet site.  The registration deadline is two workdays before departure until 11:00.

 

Baggage liability is subject to the General Conditions of Carriage in connection with the Warsaw Convention and/or the Montreal Convention. The passenger confirms his/her acceptance of these conditions by signature during check-in. All charges are to be paid prior departure (per credit card when registered online) or at the respective airport of departure during check-in.  We recommend taking out baggage insurance in any event – this applies especially to each piece of special baggage. Motorized equipment is excluded in principle from carriage.

 

 

Unaccompanied Minors (aged 5 – 11)

Unaccompanied minors will be permitted to fly on the condition of registration with Gambia Bird Airlines Ltd. at least 2 working days prior to the flight and must be registered per

Unaccompanied minors will be carried when they are able to present a written consent of their legal guardian at check-in. The total number of children under the age of 12 years carried per flight, however, is also limited.

Pet

Only dogs and cats may be transported under the following conditions. No rodents or other species will be carried. Small dogs or cats may be taken into the cabin as PETC (Pet in Cabin) if they are in a suitable pet carrier (max. measurements 55 x 40 x 20 cm) with sufficient air vents that weighs no more than 6 kilos, including contents.

 

The head of the animal may not protrude from the pet carrier and the animal must remain in the pet carrier for the entire flight. The carrier must never be placed on a seat, even if an additional seat has been purchased.

 

A charge of USD 60.00,- per flight on routes within West Africa will be made. Only one PETC per passenger will be accepted. The maximum number of PETC per flight is 4.

For all flights to-/from Europe, there are no PETC permitted.

 

Pets which weight is over 6 kilos with the pet carrier included, are carried in the hold as AVIH (Animal in Hold).  They must also be kept in a suitable pet carrier.

 

A charge of USD 100.00,- per route applies. The maximum number of AVIH per flight is 3.

 

As a rule, the pets must be carried in an enclosed container that is leak-proof and escape-proof. They must have sufficient space to be able to stand in their normal position. Furthermore they must have space to lie down. All containers used to transport animals in the hold must have a water/feed container that can be filled from outside. The water-/feed container must not be filled during the flight. The pet carrier is to be provided by the passenger.

 

The passenger bears sole responsibility for ensuring that all requirements and restrictions

associated with the import and export of animals are complied with. The passenger is generally liable for any damage and consequential damage caused by the animal or its transportation. The transportation of animals is governed by the IATA Live Animal Regulations, which Gambia Bird Airlines Ltd. may provide on request. On 1st October 2004 a new EU regulation on the veterinary conditions for the movement of pet animals came into force. This regulation is designed to avoid rabies. If you want to travel with your animal, you will need to find out about the conditions of entry.

*It is recommended always to check the animal vaccination and entry procedures by the countries you are flying to. The preparation for flying with animals and their valid documents is vital and might take time. We suggest to organize all paperwork first, before purchasing the airfare tickets.

 

Damaged and lost baggage

If baggage has been damaged or lost (misdirected), the passenger must contact the Lost & Found desk of Gambia Bird Airlines Lt. or to the handling agent operating on behalf of Gambia Bird on arrival. The passenger must be asked to present a valid baggage identification tag and the claim must be recorded on a “Property Irregularity Report” (PIR).

The PIR must be send to Gambia Bird Lost & Found by the handling agent. The passenger must be handed a claim receipt and information sheet which is available for all agents for download from our intranet site (forms & documents).

Baggage tracing

Gambia Bird is a member of WORLDTRACER and encourages its handling agent to use this system for all lost and found matters. Tracing action will be performed by the locally designated handling partner of Gambia Bird. The station responsible for tracing lost baggage is the final destination station at which the passenger arrives.

 

Prohibited articles

 

As a rule, the following articles are not permitted on board:

 

1. Articles that could put the aircraft, onboard equipment or persons at risk, in particular

  • explosives,
  • compressed gases,
  • oxidizing, radioactive, caustic and corrosive or magnetizing substances,
  • flammable substances,
  • toxic or aggressive substances,
  • any kinds of liquid, i.e. articles or substances that are classified as dangerous goods in accordance with the dangerous goods regulations.

2. Articles that are unsuitable for carriage on account of their weight, size or nature.

 

Passengers may not carry the following items in their cabin baggage or on their person:

  • Weapons of any kind, in particular firearms, as well as blunt or pointed-/edged weapons
  • Ammunition and explosive substances of any kind
  • Sharp objects, e.g. knives, scissors, ski poles and walking sticks
  • Blunt instruments that can cause injury, e.g. golf clubs and snooker cues
  • Lighters filled with lighter fluid (Zippos)

 

The following articles may only be carried in checked baggage:

  • Cutlery
  • Razor blades
  • Toy guns and commercially available toys that could be used as a weapon
  • Catapults
  • Sports rackets and other sports and leisure equipment that could be used as a weapon
  • Knitting needles
  • Any other sharp objects, such as knives, scissors, tail combs and syringes (except for certified medical purposes)

 

*The list of prohibited articles is may not be complete, depending on the countries amendments and changes and can be updated at any time. Additional regulations may apply to certain flights. Furthermore national regulations, as well as the IATA dangerous goods regulations must be complied with. The airline can provide a copy of these regulations on request.
