Zambezi Airlines baggage allowances and excess baggage policy is as follows:

International services

Economy Class

Adults and Children over 2 years: 25 kg checked; 10 kg hand baggage
Infants under 2 years: 10 kg checked; 5 kg hand baggage

Premier Business Class

Adults and Children over 2 years: 35 kg checked; 10 kg hand baggage
Infants under 2 years: 10 kg checked; 5 kg hand baggage

Excess baggage charged at $3/kg. Up to 100kg excess baggage is permitted, all subject to availability on aircraft
No one piece of baggage shall exceed 32 kg.

Domestic services

Adults and Children over 2 years: 15kg in total (checked baggage and hand baggage)

Infants under 2 years: 5 kg in total (checked and hand baggage)

Note: Domestic flights are operated by 19-seat commuter-style aircraft with very limited space for hand baggage. As you board the aircraft oversize hand baggage will be taken from you and placed in the hold and returned to you promptly on arrival.

Excess baggage charged at $2/kg. All excess baggage is subject to availability on aircraft.

No one piece of baggage shall excel 32 kg.

Excess Baggage and Unacompanied Baggage

If you would like to send your excess baggage or unaccompanied baggage as cargo on a Zambezi Airlines flight please contact our cargo General Sales Agents, Express Air Services who will make all of the arrangements for you.

Air travel is easier and less stressful if you plan in advance- here are some tips:

Checked baggage

  • Know your baggage allowance and use your bathroom scales to weigh it before you leave for the airport.
  • Leave some space for any souvenirs and gifts you might buy on your trip
  • Don’t pack any valuables or fragile items in your checked baggage.
  • Don’t pack your passport; visa’s or other travel documents because you won’t be able to access your baggage after you check-in
  • Take cash or a credit card to pay any Excess Baggage charges
  • Label your bags with your name and destination address ( never use your home address) and/or your e-mail or mobile phone number
  • If there are straps on your baggage please secure them otherwise they could get caught and rip your baggage
  • Remove old tags and labels from previous flights.

Airport security

After check you check in, go immediately through security because there may be long queues and flights won’t wait for you.

As you approach the security check remove your coat or jacket; take your laptop and liquids out of your hand bag for separate screening and be prepared to remove your shoes and belt if requested.

Your hand baggage will be checked by security staff using x-ray machinery. If you have film material over 1000 ASA or are fitted with a heart pacemaker please inform the security screening staff.

Do not take sharp objects in your hand baggage that will be confiscated at security.

Dangerous Goods

The following articles should never be packed in baggage:

Cigarette lighters

Explosives – fireworks, flares, toy guns, caps and party poppers

Infectious substances – viruses and bacteria (which would affect humans and animals)

Radioactive materials – instruments containing radioactive source radioisotopes for research

Corrosive materials – acids, alkalis, metallic mercury, thermometers containing mercury, barometers

Magnetised materials, formalin etc.

Weapons

Firearms and ammunition

Firearms and ammunition designed for sporting and hunting purposes shall be carried as checked baggage only in the aircraft holds, which are inaccessible from the cabin when the following conditions are met:

  • Firearms must be unloaded and made safe.
  • Ammunition with explosive or incendiary projectiles are not accepted.
  • Firearms are suitably packed to avoid breakage. Firearms may also be packed in passenger baggage among other items as long as it is well protected against breakage. Hard shell cases are recommended.
  • Ammunition must be securely boxed and can also be packed together in the same case with the firearm.
  • Maximum allowance for ammunition per passenger is 5 kg (pooling is not allowed). If the passenger travelling a group where more than one passenger carries the allowed amount of ammunition per person, the ammunition must be packed into separate packages each of which must not exceed 5 kg.
  • If the firearm/ammunition is not within the normal baggage allowance, normal excess baggage charges apply.

It is advisable to contact the relevant embassy or consulate to confirm the latest regulations of the destination country. The customs regulations of the destination shall be strictly followed.

Sporting equipment

Golfing equipment

Golfing equipment may consist of one golf bag containing golf clubs and a pair of golf shoes. On scheduled flights golfing equipment is transported free of charge within the free baggage allowance. Special rates are available for one set of golfing equipment only.

Valuable Items

We strongly recommend you do not put the following items into your check-in baggage: important documents, cash, fragile, valuable or perishable articles, keys, electronic equipment, samples, medicines, medical documents, passport and other proofs of identity. It is safer to carry them in your hand luggage. Zambezi Airlines accepts no liability for these items transported as registered baggage.

Pets

If you wish to transport a pet in the aircraft cabin or in the hold you must make advance arrangements with Zambezi Airlines.

Pets are not included in the free baggage allowance. When the weight system is applied, the normal excess baggage charge is debited and when the piece system is applied, one excess charge is debited for the pet/pet unit, regardless whether the passenger’s free baggage allowance is used or not.
